Artist Statement

My work brings together a nerdy life-long love of clay, an engineer dad, a mother with good stories, several smartypants siblings, and a childhood growing up third generation Japanese American in post-statehood suburban Honolulu.  The figurative sculptures—mostly nudes, mostly female—are constructed round and hollow following long-held pottery methods with a cheery disregard for fashion or hairdo.  I want them durable and well-made with an inner life and individuality.
