The Exhibition
Flashpoint - the fire show
Flashpoint brings together an accomplished group of Hawai’i based visual artists to work under the singular theme of fire. Each artist, working in diverse media, explores personal and shared interests in the chemistry of creation and the volatile systems of perceived realities.
Artworks in this exhibition depict the varied aspects of fire and are visual interpretations of flashpoints in time and place - in methods of fabrication and conceptual context. Fire is power, passion, purification, and desire - a symbol of eternity, hope, and hell. It is an agent of change.
In the hot combustion chambers of the mind, troubled fires can ignite thoughts of deprivation and alienation - dark ruminations erupting into acts of personal and collective violence. Under better circumstances these same intense fires generate flashes of incandescence - coaxing vaporous impressions into brilliant flames of inspiration and clear flashes of creativity and innovation.
The space created within each visual expression is the space where artist and viewer struggle to find meaning and beauty. Together we balance between the twin of flames of creation and destruction - exploring together the elemental forces of transformation and transmutation.
